Refund Cheques will be mailed to all members (ahead of schedule) by Friday February 26, 2021. If you do not receive your cheque by March 12 (10 business days) please contact Admin@pickeringhockey.com. Please wait the 10 days before contacting us.
Cheques were mailed to the address on file with the Hockey Canada registration system, and were endorsed to the person who made the registration payment for the season.
Refund cheques are pro-rated less the $75 admin fee. To review the refund policy stated at registration please visit the registration page. The PHA decided to maximize refund amounts, while taking into account the financial well being of the association moving forward. We must remain financially strong to provide programming for years to come. We are operating at a loss for this season however it was decided not to include operating expenses in the pro-rated refund calculation. These expenses are significant and would have drastically reduced the refund amount. These expenses occur regardless of the length of season and had to be paid months ago. An explanation of the refund is included with each cheque.
We will do our very best over the next few years to recover our losses through special events such as, Oshawa General Games, special sponsorships, and other activities. We will need our membership to participate in the events to make it a success.
Although this was not the season we had hoped for, we are grateful that hockey did happen at least until December. We are looking forward to September and providing a complete program for next season. Please continue to check the website for updates.
Update January 21, 2021
Our Season has come to an end!
The City of Pickering has made the difficult decision to remove the ice from the arenas effective immediately. Unfortunately this means our season has come to an end.
We wish to thank everyone, including coaches and staff, for the efforts made to give us some sports, even if it was only for 3 months. It was well worth it!
The PHA will begin the process of calculating prorated refunds. This will take 3-5 weeks as we have no regular access to Don Beer arena until at least Feb 10. Refunds will be mailed to the person that paid the registration fees. Due to the sheer volume of refunds, as well as maintaining proper accounting protocols, e-transfers are not a viable option for these amounts. It is our intent to maximize refunds amounts where we can and not over-burden our members with the operating expenses that are necessary for the association to run. These expenses occur regardless of the length of the season. Please be patient during the next several weeks as we work through the refund process. We will do our best to get this done as quick as possible.
Looking forward to next season, the OHF is expecting tryouts to be held in September and having a regular season schedule with normal 5/5 play. We also expect to start house league hockey in September as usual. The PHA expects Don Beer arena to be fully operational by August, following a busy summer of planning. The fall season will be complicated. We are anticipating registrations will be open in early spring.

Update: January 14, 2021
With the announcement of the 28 day lockdown, the earliest we will be able to return to play is Mid February. We will remain on pause with no PHA/OMHA sanctioned activities.
We have been informed by the OHF that the current season is extended until May 31, 2021. This is great news as it provides us with the opportunity to complete this seasons' programing and recover the missed weeks of hockey. However, there are obvious external factors that may prevent us from completing the season. Government regulation and the City of Pickering leaving the ice in the arena are just 2 factors. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as soon as they become available.

As you are all aware our ever-changing situation continues to evolve with the most recent announcement from the Province of Ontario which places all of Ontario into the Lockdown (Grey).
As of December 26th, 2020 we must PAUSE all hockey operations.
The PHA wants to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. We are committed to providing ice time for all our players in a safe and fun environment. As we now enter our 2 week Christmas break (which the PHA had already previously scheduled with no ice), we are hoping this will provide enough time for Durham to return to Orange status by the end of January. Our recent survey results show overwhelming support to continue some form of Hockey until March 2021, even under the current Red Status. The PHA along with the City of Pickering will reevaluate the options in later January 2021. Survey results can be found on our website.
Depending on how much of the season is missed the PHA may have the option to extend the season into April/May to cover missed weeks. If the season is cancelled and the City removes the ice we will issue refunds at that time.
Hockey School - We will make a decision later in January as the we may have an opportunity to make up lost sessions with the extension of the ice contract. If we have information sooner we will make decisions at that time.
